Where there’s a will, there’s a way
Day 21
Scripture
Matthew 2:7-8
Then Herod secretly called for the magi and found out from them the time when the star had first appeared. He sent them to Bethlehem, saying, “Go and search carefully for the child. When you’ve found him, report to me so that I too may go and honor him.”
Devotional
Jesus was only a few days old when Satan was concocting plans to destroy Him. God had promised to send the greatest ruler of all time to the world. Many people eagerly anticipated this day, however, many rulers didn’t really like this idea.
Herod, the King at the time, was an old man filled with jealousy of this “new ruler.” He was jealous that there was the promise of a King that would be much greater than he was. Herod was filled with sinful thoughts that poisoned and took over his mind.
Herod was the one who sent the Magi, a.k.a. the wise men, to find Jesus. Herod wanted to get some information on who Jesus was and what Mary and Joseph were up to.
But this plan didn’t really work out for Herod. The magi did go visit Jesus, but they didn’t travel back to Herod to give him any information.
This is an old story, however it’s still relevant today.
Just when we think we have the world in our pocket, we get thrown a curve ball.
When we try to make plans on our own, without going with God’s plan for us, it doesn’t work out the way we hope it will.
Prayer
God, please give me the will and ability to surrender my plans to you. Help me find the discipline to come to you in prayer, always, and listen when you answer. Amen.
Challenge
No matter how difficult it is to hear, God is always talking to you in some way. Today, find a moment to quiet your heart and turn to God in prayer. Listen, truly listen to what He is saying to you.
